The Forest Heights Trojans are exactly where they want to be at the Ontario quad-A senior girls volleyball championship in Barrie.

After struggling in their first set on Tuesday, the top-ranked Trojans bounced back and finished the day with a perfect 3-0 record and will compete in a quarter-final match on Wednesday morning.

“They all played well enough but they are going to have to play better than well enough tomorrow,” said Trojans assistant coach Lisa Watson, who singled out Jen Lennox as having a good day.

“There are some very strong teams here that we need to respect and play hard against and play smart against.”

The Trojans didn’t play hard in their first set of the day in a 9 a.m. contest against Toronto’s Michael Power-St. Joseph, but rebounded for a 2-1 (18-25, 25-18, 15-5) victory over the 16th-ranked team in the 16-team field.

The Trojans dispatched No. 11 Barrie Innisdale 2-0 (25-12, 25-21) before needing three sets to top No. 6 Aurora 2-1 (22-25, 25-17, 15-8).

The Trojans will face No. 8 A.B. Lucas of London at 10:30 on Wednesday morning and if they win that will play in semifinal matchup at 1:30. The gold-medal game is set for 6 p.m. at Eastview.

The Trojans went out for a team dinner on Tuesday night and Watson said the players would be in bed early to lessen the chances of another sluggish start.

Every player will need to raise her game to another level for the team to achieve its goal of winning a medal, Watson said.

“They play very well as a unit and that’s what we’ll need tomorrow, to play well defensively and offensively,” she said.

In Stratford, the Jacob Hespeler Hawks were 1-1 won-lost going into Tuesday’s late action at the triple-A girls volleyball championship. They had a 2-0 (25-17, 25-18) win over Oshawa’s R.S. McLaughlin and a 2-0 (9-25, 14-25) loss to Toronto’s Mary Ward.

In Kenora, the Rockway Flames were 2-0 going into the late game of the single-A girls volleyball championship. They scored a 2-0 (25-17, 25-19) win over ESC Hearst and a 2-0 (25-13, 25-20) win over Queen Elizabeth of Sioux Lookout.
