Re: Pretend city, real charm — Feb. 27

What a treat to see Kitchener and Waterloo portrayed as Wessex, the setting for CTV’s new comedy series Dan for Mayor.

Having been born in Waterloo in the early 1940s, raised there for 20 years, and then returning to live in the same house — this time as the owner from 1987 through 2002 — my grand total of 35 years created such wonderful memories. Sites such as Victoria Park, Kitchener city hall, Seagram’s and the Huether Hotel pop onto my TV screen and twig my heartstrings.

Way back in 1952, my beloved dad, Don Roberts, was mayor of Waterloo, but didn’t seem to have a style similar to the fictional Dan. Thank goodness!

Thanks to all of Kitchener and Waterloo for standing tall in this new comedy series. While my wife and I now live on Vancouver Island where snow is rare and golf is year round, it makes me homesick when I see the show featuring so many places I enjoyed so much. And the Twin Cities sure beat Dog River.
