CAMBRIDGE — Regional police are looking for a man they believe tried to rob a bank Thursday morning.

Waterloo Regional Police say the man walked into the Hespeler Road bank just before 10 a.m. wearing dark sunglasses and a surgical mask over his face.

A bank employee became suspicious after seeing the man in the front foyer holding a piece of paper in his hand. The employee called the bank’s manager.

Police say the would-be robber saw the phone call being made and left the bank. He was last seen going into a nearby plaza. Police searched the area but could not locate the man.

“We’re looking at it from the perspective of an attempted robbery,” said police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel.

Police said the bank is located in the 500 block of Hespeler Road.

The man is described as white, in his 40s, about five-feet, 10-inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a dark blue winter jacket, blue jeans and black baseball cap that he wore backwards.
